Buyer Beware: No7 Extravagant Lashes

A word to the wise: don't be fooled by the ad campaign for No.7's new mascara, Extravagant Lashes.

It has a brush the size of your thumb in a rectangular (rectangoid?) shape (yes, it's four-square, like the kouroi) that makes it almost impossible to coat your lashes. And there's nothing 'extravagant' about your lashes once you do manage to get it on. Definitely overpriced, even with the £5 off voucher they're currently handing out.

Boo, hiss. I'll be sticking with my Rimmel Sexy Curves - it might be cheap and have nasty shiny purple packaging, but it does wonders with my stubby little lashes.

Vegan Beauties

Ok, so you weren't a fan of the last shoes. Oh well, you won't stop me lusting after them! But I have something rather special up my sleeve this time. Cast your eye over these beauties: they're called Balance by Olsen Haus, and aren't they something special? I love the neon blue platform soles (they also come in neon yellow), although I would worry that the linen uppers would get filthy in our horrible weather.

And, even better, they're totally vegan! No longer need we lament the absence of beautiful non-leather shoes... Although they are £137 from Neon Collective so we might have to save up a bit! Balance are from the Spring O9 collection, but I love the Fall collection just as much - these Prague faux-suede shoe-boots are just as lovely! Although they've not popped up available on any of the UK ethical clothing websites just yet as far as I can see...

Perspex Heels?

Right. Ok, so it took me a little while to work out how to post the pictures I wanted without risking severe legal penalty by violating copyright laws. And goodness knows, on my dying laptop, I spent enough hours search for these pics, or at least for the origin of the shoes.

So. I think I might love these shoes. Which is bad, right? I mean, those are v high perspex heels and perspex uppers, with a black leather toe. But I think Sienna Miller carries them off with aplomb. (Actually, I think it's much worse than I may have led you to believe - I think I like her whole outfit here, with mismatched lace and leopard print peg-leg trousers. In an I-could-never-wear-it-but-she-totally-rocks-it kind of way.)

Of course, they probably cost an arm and a leg, and where would I wear them anyway? Can you imagine me tottering around the library in them? Oh, I'd like to do it, though, just for a day, to see the reaction...

Thoughts?

In the Beginning

We are two graduate students who share a love for all things classical and all things fashion (although not always in that order). Alas and alack, we no longer reside in the same Classics department and are faced with a dilemma: how to continue our daily exchanges now that we're not sitting on opposite computers? This blog is our solution and we'd like to think of it as a conversation across time, distance and the interwebs - or something like that anyway.

PS. We've chosen to conceal our identities under cunning ancient pseudonyms, so we're hoping not to give our true identities away and undermine our uber-intelligent day-to-day personas with idle natter.
